“Jesus: The chosen one”

Justin Nacua

23rd June, 2008

Pencil and Paper

Held in artists visual arts diary

The way i have chosen to show my image of Jesus is shown in this drawing i have done showing Jesus wearing the infamous crown of thorns symbolizing the pain and suffering Jesus has gone through for all of humanities sake. I drew this image on a normal sheet of a4 paper, at first it started of as just a random sketch but then later on the image began to take shape. Using different types of lines i was able to make the effect of a rough sketch with many details which could be seen in many ways for example scars from the excruciating pain of the scourging he had endured. One of the most captivating things to me in the artwork is the crown of thorns which is simply made up of sharp lines placed in random areas which all turned out the way i wanted it to, messy.

Students are required to choose one artistic time period other than that presented in group activity. Select ONE RELIGIOUS artwork and complete the following:

1. List the title of the image.

Altarpiece of St Denis in Paris, The Last Communion and Martyrdom of Saint Denis.

2. Name the Artist where possible.

The name of the artist is Henri Bellechose.

3. Identify features of the artwork significant to the period.

The artwork has a couple significant features including the crucification  of jesus  the last communion and  the death of Saint Denis.

4. Discuss your personal response to the message portrayed by the artwork.

i really like this painting because it portrays many different meanings that are not all obvious for example the patterns painted in the background. But the meanings i have been able to pick out are the Martyrdom of Saint Denis and his companions on the right of the painting, Saint Denis being the third century Bishop of the year 250. The image of Jesus on the cross with God above the cross and the altarpiece towards.

This activity is to be completed as paper copy and handed into group secretary who will place in group folder to be marked.

P.S Individuals not submitting work will receive zero and groups will also be penalised for missing work.

Due Friday 13th.
