Analysis of  double page spread 4

Representational :

The page spread contains a couple of rabbits pointing all in the same direction creating strong vectors, as they set their eyes upon land that is soon to be in the hands of the rabbits. The rabbits are representations of the white men, i think that they have chosen to represent the white people with rabbits because the actions made by the white men have a lot of similarities to those of Rabbits, for example the way rabbits intrude and destroy land with their burrowing and such is a lot like the way the white men came and invaded the land of the indigenous people. The boats size and shape easily make it the focal point of the image, the detail and the colors of the boat are used to represent how the white colony was much more advanced.

READING & UNDERSTANDING The Rabbits

1. In groups (or as a class) read The Rabbits

2. Discuss what the meaning of the book is

The meaning of this book is to tell the story of the invasion of the aboriginal people by the white people many decades ago. the book includes most of the events that occurred in that time through the perspective of the aboriginal people, not only with words but mainly with the pictures in the book.

3. Make a list of some visual techniques that you think help create these meanings.

vectors, symbols, focal points, salience.

4. Discuss what you think colours represent in this book.

the colours in the book represent many different things, for example many dark colours are used in the book to represent the sadness and injustice occurring. Another example would be the bright yet solid colours used on the rabbits (white people) to show their authority and dominance.
